Dave Cummings submitted the 2018 Political Courage Test after the official deadline.
| No | In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket? | ||
| No | In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending? | ||
| Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions? | ||
| No | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| Yes | Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| When businesses are given tax breaks, they expand to make more money and this creates more jobs and economic growth. Low taxes on companies will also bring jobs back to the U.S.A. This coupled with fair trade will promote economic growth. When government reduces the tax burden on the citizens, their money goes further and people spend more, thus re-creating the growing and expanding economy cycle of the free market. When the market is actually free, businesses compete to offer better products at a lower price. This happens without government intervention. Adam Smith called this "the invisible hand." | |||
| No | Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards? | ||
| The requirement for many colleges and universities for admissions are private standardized tests like the SAT and ACT. There should be similar benchmarks along the way because I feel there should be general standards, but not necessarily government imposed. Then we should allow the states to decide how the students are taught to reach those private accepted standards. | |||
| No | Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)? | ||
| No | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions? | ||
| I support a reasonable EPA that focuses on preventing environmental harm and reducing pollution, however not specifically targeting one area. | |||
| No | Do you generally support gun-control legislation? | ||
| I intensely support the second amendment of the Constitution and am against the expansion of frivolous gun and ammunition laws. With thousands of gun laws already on the books, there are countless tools at the disposal of law enforcement to keep our community safe. Our current laws simply need to be enforced. I am particularly against gun bans and magazine restrictions. Bill Clinton attempted these types of sweeping bans in 1994 without success. The result of these bans was the Columbine massacre, the DC snipers, the Atlanta brokerage shootings, and the LA bank robbery shootout just to name a few. | |||
| Yes | Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")? | ||
| We should return to the old process BEFORE the ?Affordable Care Act? was in place. We had the greatest healthcare system in the world. We had Medicare and Medicaid for the poor and the elderly; we had the VA system for our Vets, we only needed to make a few changes such as not denying pre-existing conditions and perhaps capping certain costs for services. I advocate for returning to this system. | |||
| Yes | Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border? | ||
| Yes | Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship? | ||
| I reject the notion that legal immigrants who have stood in line for ten years should be pushed to the back or DENIED citizenship to make room for law breakers who ignored our process. In addition, we must not create exceptions for the children of illegal immigrants. This only encourages people to flood our country with small children or those in the womb. This is immoral and dangerous. Illegal immigration also harms our poor and blue collar work force by keeping wages at a crushing low level. | No | Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes? | ||
| I have examined this issue a great deal and besides legalizing marijuana for medical use, having it for general recreation presents major issues that I feel this could infringe on the rights of others and expose children to the drug because unlike alcohol which is directly consumed, marijuana produces a "contact high" to those around the smoker. If the people want recreational use, it should be studied very carefully before implementation. | |||
| Yes | Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon? | ||
| No | Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support? | ||
| 1. I stand for "America First" policies and term limits. 2. I will stand for our Constitution, faith, and heritage. 3. I am an advocate for general quality of life issues such as bringing jobs and industry back, improving our healthcare, and enhancing education. I also have a plan to fix our local toxic water situation. |
